The Fortress of Slavonski Brod is a first-class monument of 18th century baroque period architecture and occupies a prominent place in the European history of fortifications from the period.

In its appearance it is reminiscent of Diocletian’s palace in Split, but differs from it, however, in the method of its construction, as the Split palace is made of stone, while the Fortress in Slavonski Brod is made of earth and bricks. With deep water-filled and geometrically shaped moats it, in a somewhat dramatic way, symbolises the specific identity of Slavonia and its turbulent history. Read more
